Los Angeles caught on wildfire

A wildfire that began on Tuesday in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles quickly turned into one of the most destructive firestorms ever.

Fierce wildfires in Los Angeles have forced the evacuation of over 130,000 people, damaged thousands of buildings, killed at least five people, and nearly depleted the city’s water supply.

According to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the Palisades fire gained momentum on Tuesday after rapidly expanding and burning hundreds of acres on Wednesday.

The Eaton fire broke out close to Pasadena in the San Gabriel Mountains a few hours after the Palisades fire had started.

Along with scorching thousands of acres of land and destroying hundreds of homes, the Eaton fire also spread quickly and even turned fatal.

The California fire department is still investigating the cause of the incident.

The Santa Ana winds helped the flares travel over mountain summits at a speed of 90 miles per hour.

Additionally, firefighters have found it difficult to put out the blazing wildfire due to the poor water supply and dry weather.

Traci Park, Los Angeles city councilwoman, said, “This is going to be devastating , a devastating loss for all of Los Angeles.”

The wildfires in Southern California had spread over 5,000 acres as of Wednesday morning.

The Eaton fire near Altadena has burnt 2,227 acres, while the Palisades fire has burned 2,925 acres, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Hurst fire, which started near Sylmar, has burned 505 acres. The agency has fully contained the smaller Woodley fire in the San Fernando Valley, which burned 75 acres. However, authorities report that the four fires remain 0 percent contained.

Wildfires threaten the home of Biden’s son

During a conference with California officials, resident Biden disclosed that the roaring wildfires have affected his son Hunter.

As reported by CBS News, Biden stated, “My son lives out here with his wife—they got a notification yesterday that their home was probably burned to the ground.” Today , it appears that maybe it’s still standing. They are not sure.”

Key Factors contributing the wildfire

  • High winds: One of the main causes of the fires’ quick spread is the Santa Ana winds, which can exceed 100 mph. These powerful winds produce an atmosphere akin to a firestorm, spreading flames over large distances at a startling rate. By transporting embers far from the original fire zones, the wind serves as a catalyst, starting new flames in otherwise safe locations.
  • Drought Conditions: The vegetation is dry and extremely flammable due to above-normal temperatures and a lack of rainfall, which has given the fires plenty of fuel.
  • Climate Change: Due to persistent climate change, which has resulted in greater temperatures and drier circumstances, scientists believe that the frequency and intensity of these fires are rising.

Although firefighters are making every effort to contain the fire, the combination of high winds, plenty of fuel, and dry weather remains a serious threat.

In order to safeguard citizens and contain the fires, authorities are keeping a tight eye on the situation, which is still active.
