The collision happened on a black run at the Les Arcs resort in Savoie, south-eastern France.

Collision on a Difficult Slope

The woman lost control of her skis while descending a challenging black run and crashed into a stationary 35-year-old British man. Philippe Janin, the slope safety director at Les Arcs, said the impact was extremely fast and violent due to the slope’s steepness and speed. Both skiers wore helmets during the collision.

Investigation Underway

Local authorities are investigating the incident to understand how it happened. According to reports, the man may have been standing in a gully when the woman hit him from behind. The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed they are supporting the woman’s family and working with local officials.

Each year, collisions on French slopes result in an average of 10 deaths, according to Domaines Skiables de France. About half involve skiers hitting each other. Despite safety measures, officials at Les Arcs emphasized that high-speed descents on steep terrain carry significant risks.
