On Friday, President Donald Trump warned of new sanctions on Russia in response to Moscow’s ongoing attacks on Ukraine.
This new threat comes after weeks of more conciliatory remarks from Trump towards Russia and President Putin, including his openness to lifting sanctions. Now, Trump is considering tougher sanctions on Russia as part of his effort to end the war.
He said, “To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you!!!”
It occurs a week after Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, and Vice President JD Vance threw a fit in the Oval Office, leading to Zelensky’s expulsion from the White House. Since then, the US has stopped providing Ukraine with military assistance and intelligence sharing.
Russia Attacks Ukraine with Lethal Airstrikes
Key energy infrastructure throughout Ukraine was the target of a fatal aircraft attack by Russian forces overnight, Ukrainian authorities said Friday.
At least two people were killed and seven injured in the southern Kherson region as a result of the missile and drone strikes. There were also two injuries in the center area of Poltava.
In a number of locations, including Ternopil in western Ukraine, Odesa in the south, and Kharkiv in the east, the attacks seriously damaged residential structures and energy infrastructure.
The assaults, which were the 17th combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s infrastructure, also targeted natural gas production facilities, according to confirmation from Naftogaz, the country’s state-run oil and gas corporation.
These ceaseless assaults are a component of Russia’s continuous plan to erode Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and military defenses, particularly during the harsh winter months. Naftogaz cautioned that these strikes will worsen the country’s energy supplies, making the Ukrainian people’s already trying winter even more tough.
Russia claims Trump’s warning won’t deter its goal to achieve in Ukraine
Following a tense exchange in the Oval Office in which Trump and Vice President JD Vance attacked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the U.S. president’s Truth Social post today represents a major change in tone from his prior pro-Moscow pronouncements. The United States has now stopped providing Ukraine with military assistance and intelligence sharing.
After U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to implement harsher financial penalties to pressure Moscow for a ceasefire, a Russian government spokeswoman stated on Friday that fresh U.S. sanctions would not stop Moscow from accomplishing its objectives in Ukraine.
Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, reacted to Trump’s Friday social media post, which started by accusing Moscow of “pounding” Ukraine. In contrast to months of U.S. attention on Ukraine’s win, Zakharova stressed that the important thing was Trump’s recognition of Ukraine’s severe military circumstances.
