Gagan Thapa Recalled Shaving His Head
April 2, 2025/ Kathmandu, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Thapa has accused former King Gyanendra Shah of conspiring to create chaos in Nepal and seize power. Speaking at a party program in Rupandehi, he claimed that Gyanendra was attempting to take governance into his own hands.

Thapa stated, “Former King Gyanendra Shah wants to create turmoil in Nepal. He wants to seize power by causing chaos and unrest. He is trying to take governance into his own hands. There is nothing to hide about this.
He also clarified that the Nepali Congress is not inherently opposed to the monarchy.
Thapa said, “When BP Koirala and others were building this party, King Tribhuvan had fled to India. At that time, they could have left him there, but they brought him back.
When King Mahendra staged a coup and imprisoned BP Koirala for eight years, forcing him into exile in India, BP and Ganesh Man still said that no matter how bad the king was, they wanted a constitutional monarchy.
This party was formed with that belief, and there is no reason to hide it. We are not a party that rejects the monarchy by birth. Those of us sitting on this stage came here believing in the monarchy.”

Recalling that he had shaved his head and observed a 13-day mourning period when King Birendra was killed, he stated that reinstating a constitutional monarchy is now impossible.
He further questioned, “If Gyanendra is causing so much trouble even while residing at Nirmal Niwas, imagine what he would have done if he were still at Narayanhiti Palace.”
