Kathmandu Ranked World’s Most Polluted City

Kathmandu’s air pollution reached a dangerously high level on Tuesday morning, making it the most polluted city in the world according to the latest report from IQAir.

As measured at 7:00 AM, Kathmandu topped the list of the world’s most polluted cities with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 262.

An AQI below 50 is considered healthy, while anything above 250 is categorized as very unhealthy.

The concentration of PM2.5 particles in Kathmandu’s air was found to be 37.5 times higher than the safety standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

PM2.5 particles are tiny pollutants that pose serious health risks when inhaled.

As a result of the rising pollution levels, hospitals in Kathmandu have reported an increase in the number of patients suffering from respiratory and allergy-related illnesses.

Health experts have advised people to avoid outdoor exercise, wear masks, and keep their windows closed to reduce exposure to polluted air.

Some of the areas with the highest pollution levels in Kathmandu include Patan, Ratnapark, and Ravi Bhawan.

Following Kathmandu, New Delhi in India ranked as the second most polluted city in the world, while Hanoi in Vietnam came third.
