24 Of The Worst Things Hipsters Did To Food In 2016

In 2016, some food trends got really strange. Hipsters who love trying new and quirky things tried different ways to make food look cool or be unique. But sometimes, what they did to food was just weird, messy, or even gross. Here are 24 things hipsters did to food back then that many people found hard to understand. You might even laugh and say, “Who thought that was a good idea?”

Fancy Food That Looked Nice but Tasted Bad

In 2016, a big trend was making food that looked beautiful on social media but didn’t always taste great in real life. One example was unicorn food. There were unicorn lattes, cakes, toast, and cookies, all filled with rainbow colors. They looked magical, but they were often just full of sugar and food coloring.

Another strange trend was gold on food. People were putting real gold flakes on coffee, cakes, and even pizza. It was shiny, yes but it had no taste. You were just eating metal for no reason. Then came beetroot lattes and matcha everything. These drinks were pink or green and made for Instagram. But many people found the flavor too earthy or bitter.

Turning Regular Food Into Strange Experiments

Hipsters loved taking simple food and turning it into something “new.” One big example was avocado everything. Avocado toast was fine but then people started putting avocado in brownies, ice cream, and even coffee. It was too much.

Another strange trend was the rise of cloud bread, made from egg whites and cream cheese. It was fluffy and colorful but didn’t taste like real bread. People also ate tiny meals in jars, like pasta or cake in glass containers. These were hard to eat and didn’t hold enough food to feel full.

Health Trends That Didn’t Always Work

Many hipsters in 2016 tried to make food “healthier,” but not all ideas made sense. One example was using kale in desserts. Kale is great in salads, but kale cupcakes and ice cream? Not so tasty. There were also vegan cheeses that looked like real cheese but tasted rubbery or bland.

Another trend was adding coconut oil in coffee, which was said to give energy. But the coffee turned oily and heavy. Some even felt sick after drinking it.

Quinoa crisps, paleo chips, and cold brew teas in fancy bottles also became popular. But these healthy snacks often lacked flavor, and the prices were high. People paid more for less.
