Man Claims Father’s Death Was an ‘Accident’ After Stabbing Him 50 Times

Can you imagine calling the police to say you accidentally stabbed someone 50 times? That’s exactly what happened in Hillsboro, Missouri, on December 18, 2024, when Jeffrey Goedde, age 41, walked into the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office with a startling confession.

Goedde told police he had “accidentally” stabbed his father, Edward Goedde Jr., who was 75 years old. When police arrived at the house where both men lived, they found a grim scene. Edward’s body was lying face down in the kitchen. Police found a kitchen knife nearby, which they think was used in the killing.

The evidence tells a brutal story. The medical examination showed that Edward hadn’t just been stabbed – he had broken bones and injuries that showed someone had hit him hard multiple times. There were also signs that someone had tried to strangle him. These injuries make it hard to believe this was just an accident, as Jeffrey claimed when he turned himself in saying, “I made a mistake.”

The Manchester Police Department has filed a criminal complaint, and Jeffrey Goedde now faces two serious charges first-degree murder and armed criminal action. He’s staying in jail while he waits for his first court date, which is set for January 16, 2025.

So far, the police haven’t said why they think this happened. They’re still investigating the case, trying to understand what would make a son attack his father with such violence in their own home. The big question remains “how does someone accidentally stab another person 50 times, break their bones, and leave signs of strangulation”?

For now, in the small community of Hillsboro, people are left wondering what really happened in that kitchen on that December day, just a week before Christmas. As investigators keep working, they’re piecing together the evidence to try to find the truth behind this family tragedy.
