As Al-Nassr’s £177 million Saudi Pro League contract expires, CR7 makes a declaration about his future and decides not to transfer.
There were many rumors circulating prior to 2025 that Cristiano Ronaldo would be attempting to go to Europe during the January transfer window as his contract with Al-Nassr is set to expire at the end of the current season.
In a recent interview, Ronaldo refuted the rumors and stated that he would be seeing his contract expire.
The star forward for Al-Nassr has declared his commitment to winning a trophy with the Saudi Pro League team and stated that he has no immediate plans to leave.
Ronaldo’s statement on not having the transfer
On February 5, the renowned forward who will celebrate his 40th birthday has brushed off mounting rumors that he would play football again in Europe.
Ronaldo has stated that Al-Nassr is still his top priority, despite rumors that he may be looking for a new challenge.
The legendary striker is keeping his options open with a big contract in place and an eye toward this crucial turning point in his career.
While having a talk with Saudi Pro League’s official media, Ronaldo stated that “I am happy, and my family is happy. We started a new life in this beautiful country. Life is good; football is good. In terms of individual and collective, we are still there. We are still improving.”
He also added, “It’s hard to compete with teams like Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad, but we are still there, still pushing and fighting. Football is like that; you have good moments and bad moments. But for me, the most important thing is to be professional, to push hard, respect the club, respect your contract, and believe that things will change.”
He also expressed his willingness, and his main objective for not having a transfer is to win the AFC title for his club.
Ronaldo’s journey to Al-Nassr
After leaving Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo made a historic move to Al Nassr in December 2022, starting his journey to the Saudi Arabian team.
In November 2022, Ronaldo’s second stint at United came to an end after a contentious TV appearance with journalist and presenter Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo’s contract with United ended after he expressed dissatisfaction with the Glazers, the club’s facilities, and manager Erik Ten Hag.
Then joined Al Nassr on a two-and-a-half-year deal reportedly worth €200 million annually, including commercial deals, making him the highest-paid athlete in the world.
This marked the first time he left Europe’s top leagues for Al Nassr, a significant turning point in his career.
Ronaldo, who has failed to win the league title with Al Nassr, will also be hoping to accomplish so. Only in 2023 did he win the Arab Club Champions Cup with Al Nassr.
