Bumrah nominated for ICC Men’s Player of the Month

Jasprit Bumrah was nominated on Tuesday (7th January) for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for December 2024 for the BGT.

Since making his debut for his country in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah, one of the best fast bowlers in contemporary cricket, has had incredible success in every format.

He has revolutionized Indian cricket with his unconventional style, deadly yorkers, and reliability.

In the just completed Border-Gavaskar Trophy, he was India’s most impressive player, claiming 22 wickets at an average of 14.22 in December. He took 32 wickets in 5 Test matches during the entire series.

In the Test matches in Melbourne and Brisbane, he claimed 9 wickets, significantly contributing to India’s success in Australia.

Bumrah achieved the highest score by an Indian captain in BT 2024–25 as he hit 22 off 17 balls in the opening innings of the fifth Test match against Australia in Sydney.

After experiencing back spasms on Day 2 and having to leave the field for scans, Bumrah was unable to bowl in the pivotal fifth and final test in Sydney.

After Day 3 in Sydney, where India lost the BGT to Australia after ten long years, Bumrah said, “Frustrated to miss out. Sometimes, you have to respect your body. You can’t fight your body. Disappointing; I probably missed out on the spiciest wicket of the series.

It is noteworthy that Bumrah’s 22 is the highest score an Indian captain has ever achieved in BT 2024–25. For the record, during the series, India has had two captains.

Bumrah was given the duty when Rohit missed the first Test because of the birth of his second kid. He excelled, leading India to a 295-run triumph.

Jasprit’s magic in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25

Bumrah delivered brilliant performances every time he touched the ball, while his colleagues struggled in the Australian conditions.

He set the record for the most Test wickets by an Indian in a single series in Australia, claiming two five-wicket hauls.

But halfway through Day 2 in Sydney, he left the game to go to a hospital for scans.

Bumrah’s teammate Prasidh Krishna disclosed that the senior India pacer complained of back spasms, despite the fact that everything appeared to be fine at first.

His scans are a preventative measure. We expect a formal medical update from the BCCI.

Other players are also racing for the player of the month (December).

Australian captain Pat Cummins, who led his team to a 3-1 victory over India in the BGT series, has joined Jasprit Bumrah in the race for the prestigious honor.

Cimmins made a significant impact with the ball, taking 17 wickets at an impressive average of 17.64 across the three test matches he played in December.

Pat Cummins highlighted his bowling brilliance with valuable contributions with the bat, scoring 49 and 41 in Melbourne.

His all-round performance was crucial in Australia’s success as he took six wickets in the match, playing a pivotal role in securing another important win for his team.

The third player nominated is South African Dane Paterson, who played a key role in helping the Proteas secure a place in the World Test Championship final against Australia later this year.

Paterson took 13 wickets at an impressive average of 16.92 in just two Test matches.

His standout performances, including figures of 5/71 against Sri Lanka and 5/61 against Pakistan, were crucial in South Africa’s victories, showcasing his vital contribution to the team’s success.
