MS Dhoni has sparked retirement speculations once again with his latest move, suggesting that the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season could be his final one.
The 18th edition of the IPL kicks off on March 22, with Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings (CSK) starting their campaign the next day against the Mumbai Indians.
In past editions, a sea of yellow would always fill the stadiums wherever Dhoni played, and we can expect the same this season.
However, it seems that Dhoni may be contemplating retirement, especially after the cryptic message printed on his t-shirt.
In order to begin his preparations for the 18th edition of the lucrative T20 tournament, Dhoni arrived in Chennai on Wednesday. However, Dhoni’s t-shirt with a Morse code on it caused a social media uproar. “One last time” was the message that admirers attempted to decipher.
Journey of MS Dhoni
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on July 7, 1981. His passion for sports began early in life.
He played badminton and football at first, but cricket was his real passion. Dhoni’s career started in local clubs and youth teams, when his skills as a batsman and wicketkeeper began to show. He played for Bihar in his first domestic cricket match before switching to Jharkhand.
When Dhoni was called up to the Indian national team for a one-day match against Bangladesh in 2004, it was his big break.
Despite having a poor start, he immediately won over fans with his strong, aggressive hitting approach. His position in the team was cemented by his spectacular innings, which included a memorable 148 against Pakistan in 2005.
Captaincy legacy
Dhoni was given the Indian team’s skipper for the first-ever T20 World Cup in 2007. His status as a successful captain began when India won the tournament under his direction. Dhoni stands out from the others because to his cool head, tactical sense, and capacity for handling pressure.
He then served as India’s captain in a number of formats, helping the team win the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy, the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, and the 2007 ICC World Twenty20.
Dhoni’s ability to remain composed under duress was a defining characteristic of his leadership.
Dhoni gained a reputation as one of the most intelligent and effective captains in international cricket, whether it was by hitting a six to end a game or making strategic choices in close games.
Chennai Super Kings and Dhoni
Dhoni’s tenure with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL is legendary. Dhoni made CSK one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition from the very first season in 2008.
CSK became popular among fans thanks to his leadership, clutch plays, and capacity to inspire his group. CSK won several IPL championships under his leadership (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021), and Dhoni became a household name for the group.
Retirement from International Cricket
Dhoni made a poignant Instagram post on August 15, 2020, announcing his retirement from international cricket.
Following a dazzling 15-year career with the Indian team, in which he became one of the most decorated cricket players in history, he made his decision.
Dhoni led CSK in the IPL despite retiring from international cricket. His influence on Indian cricket is still incalculable, and his memory continues to motivate future players everywhere.
But now, the time has likely come for the legend to retire from the IPL as well.
Fan’s reaction to rumours about Dhoni’s retirement
When MS Dhoni’s supporters learn that he may resign from CSK, they probably feel a range of emotions. Since Dhoni has come to represent the franchise’s leadership, success, and tenacity, it would be a painful time for many.
One of his fans tweeted, “Chill Guys.. it’s just a T-shirt. Dhoni is not retiring.”
While the other one expressed his sadness by tweeting, “The morse code on Thala’s t-shirt says, ‘one last time’ @chennaiIPL , noooooo.”
There would probably be a significant gap in CSK and the IPL overall if such a legendary person retired.
