“Snow White,” starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, has been a box office disaster for Disney, facing numerous issues even before its March release.
When big blockbuster movies don’t dominate the box office for a few weeks, it’s a sign of concern. Sadly for “Snow White,” Variety reports that the movie dropped from the top spot in its second weekend, earning just $14.2 million domestically—a 66% decrease from its debut weekend.
The movie which debuted last weekend with $42 million, witnessed a steep drop in box office receipts. This is a worrying indication for Disney because a sharp decline in a film’s second weekend performance frequently suggests whether the film will do well in the weeks that follow.
“A Working Man,” starring Jason Statham, took the top spot with a domestic box office receipt of $15.2 million. Even though Statham is a well-known star, it’s still somewhat surprising that his film did better than “Snow White,” especially in light of Disney’s enormous $250 million investment.
Snow White’s controversy
Even before it was released in theaters, “Snow White” was a controversial film. The portrayal of the seven dwarfs caused controversy, and several people were offended by Rachel Zegler’s choice to play the major role.
Zegler is of Polish and Colombian ancestry. Additionally, Zegler offended numerous Disney fans when she described the original movie love story as “weird.” She also garnered media attention for expressing strong views on the Israel-Hamas conflict and the 2024 U.S. presidential race, which exacerbated the situation.
After thanking fans for watching the “Snow White” trailer last year, Rachel Zegler shared a message on X saying, “And always remember, free Palestine.”
Later, in November, she posted on Instagram expressing that she hoped President Donald Trump and his supporters “never know peace,” which caused a lot of backlash. She eventually apologized for these comments.
Snow White: Disney’s animated classic movie

Starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the 2025 live-action movie is a reworking of the 1937 Disney animation classic.
The narrative centers on Snow White’s escape from her envious stepmother, the Evil Queen, who orders her execution because of Snow White’s exceptional beauty.
This movie seeks safety with a group of dwarfs and Jonathan, a noble bandit, who aids her in bringing the nation together against the Queen.
This version deviates from the original in a number of ways, such as giving ‘Snow White’ a new history in which her birth takes place during a snowstorm and substituting Jonathan, a proactive character who helps Snow White, for the usual Prince Charming. The movie portrays Snow White as a key, proactive character and highlights themes of leadership and empowerment.
While some have praised Gadot’s portrayal of the Queen, the movie has received mixed reviews overall, with many criticizing its execution and artistic decisions, including the portrayal of the dwarfs.
