Senior Journalist Bhairav Risal Passes Away at 97

Veteran journalist Bhairav Risal has passed away at the age of 97. He breathed his last at around 7:45 PM on Saturday while undergoing treatment at Frontline Hospital in Baneshwor, Kathmandu, his younger brother Puru Risal confirmed.

Following his wish to donate his body for medical education, preparations are underway to take his body to the Patan Academy of Health Sciences, according to his daughter Sushma Risal.

Risal was one of Nepal’s pioneering journalists, active since the Panchayat era. He served for a long time at the national news agency, Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), retiring as Chief Correspondent. Even after retirement, he remained deeply engaged in environmental journalism and was associated with Radio Sagarmatha from its inception.

At Radio Sagarmatha, he contributed his thoughts regularly through the popular “Radio Kurakani” segment and also hosted a program titled Uhiley Bajeyka Palama (In the Times of Our Ancestors).

Apart from journalism, Risal was also active in the “Jayatu Sanskritam” movement.

Risal had publicly declared his wish to donate his body for medical studies after his death, reflecting his lifelong commitment to education and social contribution.
