Israel carried out powerful airstrikes in Yemen after the Houthi group launched missiles and drones toward Israeli territory. These strikes came just one day after a Houthi missile reached near Ben Gurion Airport in Israel. In response, Israeli jets attacked important places controlled by the Houthis, including ports and a power station.
This marks the first time in nearly a month that Israel has hit Houthi targets in Yemen. The situation has caused concern across the region, as the conflict now stretches far beyond Gaza.
What Israel Targeted in the Strikes
The airstrikes hit several key locations in western Yemen. These included three major ports Hodeidah, Ras Isa, and Salif as well as the Ras Qantib power station. The ports are important because they handle fuel, goods, and food supplies for Yemen. The power plant provides electricity to nearby areas.
Israel also targeted fuel tanks, oil storage areas, cranes, and a ship called the Galaxy Leader, which was taken by the Houthis in 2023. The strikes were carried out by nearly 20 aircraft dropping around 50 bombs and missiles.
Damage to Ports and Power Supply
After the attacks, large fires broke out at the ports. Thick smoke could be seen rising from the oil tanks. Residents in the city of Hodeidah reported loud explosions and power outages. The power station stopped working, leaving many people without electricity.
At the moment, there is no official report of how many people were hurt or killed. However, past airstrikes in the area have caused dozens of deaths and injuries. Many buildings and services in the city have also been damaged.
Why This Conflict Is Growing Bigger
The fighting between Israel and the Houthis is part of a wider regional problem. The Houthis are backed by Iran, which also supports other groups that do not agree with Israel’s policies. Israel has warned that if the Houthis keep attacking, it will treat Yemen like Iran, meaning stronger military action could follow.

Ports and Power Plants Are Important for Yemen
