This is not the first time landslides have affected the Kaligandaki Corridor. The area is known for its steep terrain, and during the monsoon season, continuous rainfall makes the slopes extremely weak. The soil becomes loose, and the natural hillsides cannot hold together.

As rain continues to fall, large portions of land slide down, blocking roads, rivers, and valleys. In the case of these two landslides, the damage was heavy enough to halt all movement completely. This created a major roadblock for both local people and travelers from nearby districts.

Police and local government working to clear landslide-hit Kaligandaki road

Soon after the landslides were reported, a team from the Bhurtung Police Post under Purtighat was sent to the scene. The police helped cordon off the dangerous areas and informed the public to avoid unnecessary travel through those zones. Meanwhile, the local government began working with contractors and heavy machinery operators to remove the rocks and mud from the road. However, this task is difficult and slow.

The landslide is still active in some parts, meaning new debris keeps falling. Workers must wait for the slope to stabilize before starting full clearing operations.

Residents demand permanent solution for landslide problems in Gulmi

People living in the Kaligandaki corridor area are now demanding strong action from the government. They are asking for regular maintenance of the road, better monitoring during monsoon season, and immediate steps to make the area safer. Many feel their voices have been ignored for too long.

The road is not just for one village it is a lifeline for many districts. Fixing it should not be delayed further. Everyone agrees: landslides may be natural disasters, but proper planning and action can reduce their damage.

The landslides at Gargare and Barlawa show how vulnerable mountain roads can be especially during heavy rain. It highlights the importance of strict safety measures, road maintenance, and early warning systems in areas prone to sliding slopes. While authorities and contractors work to reopen the road, residents and travellers must stay cautious. Continued attention and quick coordination are key to preventing disruption and ensuring safety in this region of Nepal.
