Brutal Assault on Woman in Nepal
Shila Chaudhary, a 26-year-old from Ghorahi-10, suffered a brutal beating by Gopal Chaudhary’s wife and others in Chagu, Ghorahi-11. They tied her to an electric pole and assaulted her to the brink of death.

Ward chairman Kul Bahadur Lamichhane intervened to settle the case through a financial agreement at Narayan Police Post, with police present. Women’s rights activists opposed this, insisting on legal action instead of a monetary settlement.
Despite the severity of the attack, the District Police Office in Dang failed to act. Political pressure led Narayan Police Post to settle the case without reporting it. However, activists pushed for justice, leading to a formal case registration.
Rights activist Khuma Khadka condemned the extreme abuse and took the issue to the police. She confirmed that a case of indecent behavior was filed, demanding punishment for the perpetrators.

Gopal had called Shila to his house in the evening. His wife and several others attacked her inside, then dragged her outside and tied her to a pole before continuing the assault.
Initially, the assailants paid NPR 61,000 to settle the case, but the victim rejected the deal. She now demands the return of the money and full legal action against those responsible.
