Gagan Thapa Says No Time to Discuss Obsolete Monarchy

Thapa asserted that Nepal must not revisit discussions about former King Gyanendra Shah, emphasizing that the country has already discarded him as a figure of the past. He emphasized that Nepal must focus on current and future challenges rather than dwelling on outdated debates.

General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa spoke at the ‘Ncell Baahrakhari Conclave’ in Kathmandu and urged Nepal to focus on contemporary challenges instead of revisiting outdated political debates. He directly dismissed discussions about monarchy, which Nepal abolished in 2008, as unnecessary and obsolete, pushing political leaders and citizens to prioritize pressing national issues.

Thapa stressed the need to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure good governance. He urged Nepal to concentrate on economic development, social justice, and political stability rather than wasting time debating a system that the country had already discarded. His remarks challenged groups that continue to advocate for the restoration of monarchy, despite Nepal’s federal democratic structure.

Thapa firmly stated that Nepal must not waste the next 8 to 10 years revisiting outdated, unnecessary, obsolete, and discarded characters and topics from the past decade. Thapa reinforced his stance by stating that these issues had already been discarded and forgotten. He urged Nepal to shift its attention toward more pressing and relevant matters that directly impact the nation’s future.

Instead, Thapa emphasized that the next decade should focus on increasing the number of IT experts fivefold, tripling their salaries, and enhancing IT infrastructure.

“The topic of discussion for the next 10 years should be about how to increase our IT experts fivefold, how to triple their salaries, and how to develop IT infrastructure,” Thapa added.
