Interior minister Mohsin Naqvi visits Kabul for high-level talks today

Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi made an official visit to Kabul today to hold high-level discussions with Afghan officials. The visit comes at a time when both countries are facing serious security concerns along their shared border. The purpose of the visit is to improve cooperation on security matters and to discuss cross-border issues such as terrorism, illegal movement, and border management.

Inquiry on Cross-Border Security and Counter-Terrorism Efforts

During the meetings, Minister Naqvi and Afghan leaders focused on boosting efforts to tackle terrorism and strengthen border controls. In recent months, Pakistan has experienced several attacks that it says were planned or carried out by militants crossing over from Afghan territory. The Pakistani government has urged the Afghan Taliban administration to take stronger action against such groups.

Afghan officials, in response, have said they are committed to peace and want friendly relations with Pakistan. Both sides agreed that joint efforts are needed to stop extremist elements from harming either country.

Repatriation of Undocumented Afghans and Border Management

Another major topic during the visit was the issue of undocumented Afghan nationals currently residing in Pakistan. Pakistani authorities have already started a repatriation drive aimed at sending back illegal Afghan residents. Minister Naqvi emphasized the importance of Afghan cooperation in verifying citizenship, receiving returnees with dignity, and preventing future illegal entries.

Both governments also discussed ways to improve border facilities and make the visa and legal entry process smoother. There was a strong focus on ensuring that legal travelers are not affected while security at the borders remains tight.

Improving Trade Ties and Bilateral Economic Cooperation

Apart from security and migration, the two countries also discussed ways to enhance cross-border trade and economic cooperation. The Chaman and Torkham border crossings, which are key routes for goods between Pakistan and Afghanistan, have seen disruptions due to recent tensions.

Minister Naqvi highlighted Pakistan’s willingness to improve trade procedures, reduce delays at checkpoints, and encourage formal economic ties that can benefit both countries. The Afghan side welcomed the idea, noting that trade can help improve livelihoods and promote peace through economic interdependence.

The visit by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi shows Pakistan’s desire to resolve issues with Afghanistan through dialogue and cooperation.

While deep challenges remain, such high-level meetings help reduce tensions and encourage joint efforts to fight terrorism, manage borders, and support peace in the region.
