Lady Gaga Wins Sports Emmy, Nears EGOT Status
Lady Gaga has moved closer to EGOT status with a recent Sports Emmy win. The pop icon received the award for her emotional performance of “Hold My Hand” at the Super Bowl LIX pre-game show.

This win was announced on May 20, 2025, during the 46th Annual Sports Emmy Awards in New York City. It puts her just one Tony Award away from joining the elite group of entertainers who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony.
Sports Emmy for Super Bowl Performance
Gaga won the Sports Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction. Her performance of “Hold My Hand” took place during the Super Bowl LIX pre-game show in New Orleans.
The performance was held on Bourbon Street. It was a tribute to the victims of the New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans, Hurricane Helene in Florida and Georgia, and the January wildfires in Los Angeles County.
Gaga sang while playing the piano, surrounded by a full band, choir, and first responders. Her powerful delivery touched many viewers and clearly impressed Emmy voters. She won over strong contenders like HBO’s The Lionheart and Netflix’s The Turnaround.
This was her first Emmy win, adding to her long list of accolades.
What is EGOT Status?
EGOT stands for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. These are the four most prestigious awards in American entertainment. Only 21 stars including Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, and John Legend—have won all four.
With this Sports Emmy, Gaga is now only a Tony Award away from joining this exclusive club. She already holds an Oscar for Best Original Song for “Shallow” and 14 Grammy Awards for her music.
Gaga’s Journey to EGOT
Gaga’s path to EGOT status shows her range as an artist. She won an Oscar in 2019 for “Shallow,” a song she co-wrote and performed in A Star Is Born.
She has collected 14 Grammy Awards over her career. Her most recent win came in 2025 for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance with Bruno Mars for “Die With a Smile.”
Before this, she had four Primetime Emmy nominations. One was for her 2016 Super Bowl LI halftime show. However, this Sports Emmy is her first television award.
Clearly, Gaga’s talent spans music, film, and now live sports performance.
The Super Bowl Performance
Gaga’s Super Bowl LIX performance stood out for many reasons. She chose to perform “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick to honor those affected by recent tragedies.
She wore a white suit and hat and played the piano in the middle of Bourbon Street. The moment was dramatic and heartfelt.

Michael Strahan and Tom Brady introduced her. Over 1,200 guests attended the event, which was hosted by comedian Roy Wood Jr. at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall.
Both fans and critics praised the emotional power and direction of the performance. Gaga shared the Emmy with producers Seth Dudowsky, Bill Richards, and others.
Fan and Industry Reactions
Fans celebrated Gaga’s win across social media. On X, many called her “the queen of pop” and said a Tony is surely next.
Industry outlets like The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard noted how important this win is. Still, some debated if a Sports Emmy should count toward EGOT status, as usually only Primetime or Daytime Emmys are considered.
Even so, the Emmys’ official X account congratulated Gaga and highlighted her nearness to EGOT. Her fanbase, known as Little Monsters, showed their pride. One user posted, “Lady Gaga winning sports awards now? Queen behavior!”
What’s Next for Gaga?
To complete her EGOT, Gaga needs a Tony Award. That means she would have to work on Broadway.
So far, she has not done Broadway, but she has proven her acting talent in films like A Star Is Born and Joker: Folie à Deux.
She also recently announced her Mayhem Ball Tour for her seventh album, Mayhem. Plus, she’ll appear in Wednesday Season 2 in a cameo role.
Fans are already hoping she’ll pursue a Broadway project soon. Many believe her stage charisma and theatrical style make her a perfect fit.
For now, Gaga stands just one award away from one of entertainment’s highest honors.
