Durga Prasai had gone into hiding after leading a violent royalist protest at Tinkune on Chaitra 15, which resulted in significant unrest, including vandalism and clashes with security forces. The protest, advocating for the return of monarchy, saw widespread destruction, with several public and private properties damaged. Following the incident, authorities launched a manhunt for Prasai, deploying multiple police teams to track him down. After several days of intense search operations, police arrested him in India on Thursday and brought him back to Nepal through the Kakarbhitta border point. His disappearance had sparked nationwide speculation, with various theories circulating about his whereabouts and possible escape routes. Meanwhile, his supporters had gathered at key locations, demanding his release and questioning the government’s actions. Prasai is now in custody and is expected to face legal proceedings related to the violent demonstration and its consequences.
On Friday, Kathmandu District Court Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal allowed police to keep Prasai in custody for 12 more days to investigate further.
