Obama slams Gaza starvation, demands global action

Ex-President Barack Obama used his platform to urge immediate action to save lives in Gaza. He highlighted the urgent need for humanitarian aid delivery to prevent preventable starvation. On July 28, 2025, Obama shared a strong message on X , stating: Aid must be permitted to reach people in Gaza. There is no justification for keeping food and water away from civilian families.

Gaza Faces Starvation in Wartime: A Man-Made Crisis

Global health and humanitarian groups now say Gaza is experiencing conditions close to famine. According to the World Health Organization, food access is far below what is needed for survival. They warned that approximately 800,000 people in northern Gaza face imminent risk of starvation due to blocked supplies.

The U.N. estimates that entire populations risk death from hunger, disease, and violence. Only an average of 42 aid trucks entered Gaza daily well under the 350 trucks per day demanded by the U.S. government.

International Leaders Join Calls for Ceasefire and Aid Access

Gaza’s administration has issued urgent appeals for the creation of safe, internationally supervised humanitarian corridors. These routes would ensure food and medicine reach civilians without blockades or political constraints. In statements, they labeled the Israeli blockade a “collective crime” and demanded global pressure to end policies they say amount to mass starvation and forced displacement. They called for a swift investigation into these actions.

Similarly, the United Nations human rights experts condemned Israel’s suspension of aid as weaponizing starvation. They declared the situation a violation of international humanitarian law and called for immediate compliance and protection for civilians. U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned that the distribution methods currently in place are unsafe and result in deaths among aid seekers.

Senator Sanders and Palestinian Leaders Demand Stronger Action

Back in the U.S., Senator Bernie Sanders demanded that American taxpayer support not contribute to starvation in Gaza. He criticized Israel’s “illegal war” and warned against the continued humanitarian suffering caused by aid obstruction. Sanders called for an end to military and financial support unless Israel meets core humanitarian criteria.

At the same time, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas issued letters to world leaders urging immediate action. He framed Israel’s military control and blockade as war crimes, demanding full aid access, a lasting ceasefire, and international support for Palestinian sovereignty and justice.

Why Obama’s Appeal for the International Community

As a former U.S. President, Barack Obama holds significant global influence . His call for action places strong pressure on international leaders and institutions to respond not just to political demands but to a growing humanitarian catastrophe.

While acknowledging that a diplomatic resolution requires hostage returns and an end to military operations, Obama stressed that immediate action is critical to save lives now. His statement pushes global attention onto the basic moral duty to deliver sustenance and clean water to civilian families in Gaza.

Preventable Starvation Is a Crisis in Need of Change

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza has now reached a life-and-death tipping point. Starvation is not just a side effect of conflict it is preventable if the world acts swiftly. Former U.S. President Barack Obama’s appeal makes clear that aid must flow freely and without political obstruction. With voices like the U.N., medical bodies, aid groups, and global leaders uniting in concern, the pressure is on Israel and its allies to allow life-saving supplies into the enclave.
