PM Acknowledges Khawaja Asif’s Role in UK-Pakistan Flights

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has publicly credited Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif for playing a key role in restoring Pakistan’s direct flight operations to the United Kingdom. The move marks a significant breakthrough for the country’s aviation sector and diaspora community.

Flight restrictions had been in place since 2020 after a major pilot license scandal led UK and European authorities to ban Pakistan’s national airline from their airspace due to safety concerns. The restoration now paves the way for Pakistan International Airlines and other carriers to resume services to the UK.

The return of direct flights between Pakistan and the UK is likely to boost tourism, trade, and family connections. After all, the UK is home to over 1.6 million people of Pakistani origin, many of whom depend on regular travel between the two countries to stay in touch with loved ones or conduct business.

Until recently, travelers had no choice but to book indirect or expensive flights through the Middle East, which caused frustration and delays. However, now that authorities have lifted the ban, officials expect ticket prices to drop. As a result, passenger convenience is also set to improve, making travel faster, easier, and more affordable

PM Praises Khawaja Asif’s Diplomatic Efforts in Resolving Aviation Ban

Prime Minister Sharif applauded Asif’s persistent diplomatic engagement with UK authorities and international aviation bodies. He noted that restoring trust in Pakistan’s aviation system required “tireless efforts, policy reforms, and reputation rebuilding.”

Khawaja Asif was reportedly instrumental in reforming pilot training standards, improving regulatory oversight, and engaging with the UK Civil Aviation Authority to address safety concerns. The results of these efforts were key in convincing British regulators to allow the resumption of flights.

Pakistan Aims for Full Compliance with International Aviation Standards

Officials from Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority have confirmed that strict monitoring and reform measures are now in place to avoid future bans.

Authorities have introduced new transparency rules, scheduled regular audits, and established partnerships with international aviation experts.

They are also actively revising local aviation policies and aligning them with the guidelines set forth by the International Civil Aviation Organization a pivotal move toward regaining full global accreditation.
