Her stance aligns with Mayor Balen Shah’s recent plans.

A Controversial Project

The Kathmandu View Tower, located at the old bus park, has sparked intense public debate. Mayor Shah recently called for its demolition, labeling it unnecessary and plagued by irregularities. Deputy Mayor Dangol echoed his view, calling the tower purposeless.

Speaking to journalists, Dangol criticized the project’s lack of utility. “The view tower has become a point of conflict and offers no benefit to the public,” she said. She stressed that infrastructure built in the name of public interest should serve the people not generate commercial profits.

“There is no need for the city to run shops or do business with the public,” she stated firmly.

‘People First’ Approach

Dangol emphasized her commitment to the people of Kathmandu. “I always stand for ‘people first’,” she said. “If a project claims to serve the people, it must truly benefit them.” She warned against using past decisions as excuses. “Just because those involved are gone doesn’t mean we should let the new generation be misled.”

Dangol also called for a review of other controversial buildings. She pointed to the Chhaya Center in Thamel and Hotel Hilton as examples. “We must conduct proper studies before deciding what to do with such structures,” she said.

Protecting Heritage

When asked about a building constructed over a pond, which is currently under legal review, Dangol shared her personal opinion. “I believe we should demolish it to restore life to the pond,” she said. “Although I can’t say much due to the legal case, preserving natural and cultural sites is crucial.”

She added that protecting heritage should be a priority. “People may argue about the money already spent,” she said, “but heritage can last for centuries. That’s the real treasure we pass on.”

Mayor’s Allegations

Earlier, Mayor Shah accused Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain of approving the tower’s design without proper procedure. Shah claimed this was an example of policy-level corruption and took action against Guragain.
